They were one of the last to surrender in ‘39. She was running away from her house. Leaving everything. A row of men were being executed just behind that door. Amongst them her husband. She… she didn’t look back. I was irritated because I had my camera in my hand and I couldn’t find another film. They were being shot one by one, and all I could think was “I’ve got no bloody film.” I’m still proud I got it. You’ve got to grab it while you can.
